Yoga at Work

So many of us spend time hunched over a desk or standing uncomfortably in our jobs. Before life as a yoga teacher, I sat at a desk a lot. A lot a lot. I was well acquainted with the smooshed, stiff, tense muscles associated with prolonged time periods in a single position. I would uncurl myself from my desk only to re-curl behind the wheel then to get home and curl back up on the couch. Thinking back – I don't know that I stood up straight until my first yoga class.

In thinking about all the time I spent bent over my desk, computer, steering wheel, smartphone, etc. it’s no wonder my back and neck hurt. And man did they bother me. I would get massages and experience temporary alleviation but nothing that was long lasting – until yoga. Yoga gently coaxed open my chest, straightened my posture and relieved the tension in my neck. I loved it. It felt like somehow I had lucked into a new body – one that wasn’t rolled up like a sleeping bag for most of the day.

I clearly remembered these sensations as I completed my teacher training certification. There had to be a way to bring this “lucked into someone else’s body” feelings to lots of people – people who inevitably had those same snail-like qualities that I did in my desk job. Could I offer the possibility for everyone to lose the ubiquitous back pain? And it hit me. Yoga at work.

Yoga at work was 100% the solution. I thought back to my days of working with bank clients and then later preparing college lectures, If I was offered a way to counter the curl with yoga during my workday – I would have taken it. So now, that's what I am offering. Yoga Balance, Inc. brings the yoga to you – where you need to experience the benefits the most, at your job. Instagram worthy yoga poses are not the goal – stress relief, decompression and gentle stretching are the aim of the all levels classes I write.

Imagine, you have an important meeting after lunch, so you pop in to see me, get in some jitters-removing yoga and then get back to your day – naturally CRUSHING your meeting. What’s awesome about yoga is the connection that’s established between the physical practice and the calming of the mind. For me, I can come into a class with 500 things screaming in my mind for attention and at the completion of my practice – those voices have been calmed and my body feels ready to take on the next challenge.

So, yea, yoga at work. Let me know if you want a stress-relieving, anxiety-reducing, muscle-decompression outlet in your day. I can’t wait to put something together for you.
